historical data
The Selva Lacandona, Eastern part of the state of Chiapas, derives its name from an indigenous community that lived in her from the pre-Hispanic time: lacandones. During the Colony, thus the Spaniards called to the Indians of Lacan-Tun. With this name, that he means to Great Rock or Rock (of lacam: great; and tun: stone), lacandones designated the main islet of the Miramar lake, in which they had built the small head of its extensive selvático territory.
